About me

Kent Wedding Photographers

A passion for photography, yes. I like photographing people so I'm not a landscape photographer, even though I like the outdoors. Mainly commercial work (location, studio, editorial, publications) but I shoot about 20 weddings per year.  I'm driven by a desire to give people access to magazine-quality pictures.  Canon equipment and I'm fortunate to count them as a client (in the UK).

years shooting: 20+;

Panel expert for Your Kent Wedding Magazine & A Kentish Ceremony.

Shooting Style

Shooting style

It's documentary wedding photography, unobtrusive & not too many groups. The driving passion is about great, natural images.

Wedding photography is sometimes described as contemporary, traditional, reportage etc. Reportage is shorthand for relaxed, informal, or documentary. Zero intervention from the photographer is called wedding photojournalism. Some photographers prefer to capture the moment only (nothing wrong with that) but sometimes it needs a little nudge to bring things together. This is what I call 'styled documentary'. more>

Albums

Albums & books

The main type album we use contains real photographic prints, sealed onto thick mounted pages. When you add a designer or leather cover they make a perfect wedding album. These are called flush mounted albums. There's a choice of colours and sizes but you should see how good the square shape looks. They're hand-stitched too.

There are also premium grade pre-matted bound albums. They're a contemporary take on the traditional album.

Digitally printed / press printed books are available as parent book copies of your main album.

Prices

Prices

There are just two things to pay for - the amount of photography that you would like on the day and what you decide to do with the pictures afterwards (in an album, book, frames etc.).  Once you've received your album we include the high resolution disc too.  A full price list is available by request but here's the summary:
  • £995.00 is the minimum investment for wedding photography but for mid-week and smaller weddings it can cost less so please ask about this.
  • Most couples spend an average  £1500, including an album, high resolution disc, pre-wedding shoot and web hosting.

About my wedding photography

Why do you charge what you do?

I know I'm not the cheapest of the Kent wedding photographers but I guess I'm in the middle somewhere. My focus is on good value with a great service and there is a minimum I can charge for that. You don't necessarily have to hire me for the whole day so do ask.

Technical ability has to be a given for wedding photography, but what I believe I bring is also a commercial eye - all of those editorial and location  assignments mean that I can work with you to get the best from your investment in the venue, dress and the photography. I'm sometimes described as a wedding photojournalist which means I document your day as it unfolds, but it's great to include some set pieces too. My wedding photography is called styled documentary - tweaking things discretely.

From my side I also put a lot into each wedding. Prior to the wedding there is the research and the meetings; after the wedding there is the processing of the digital files, the preparation for your previewing, album page layouts and dealing with the lab regarding your orders. And on the day itself - well I'll be doing a thoroughly professional job.

Galleries

You can also view galleries of pictures on the blog by category of photography - from portraits on the beach to studio photography.

Where do you work?

Most of Tim's wedding customers are from around Kent - Canterbury, Faversham, Whitstable and Herne Bay - but requests come from London, the south east of England and all over the UK.

Which suppliers do you know?

Dresses & bridal wear: Jodi of Canterbury; Signature Brides; Teokath Canterbury; I Do Weddings Whitstable; Brides of Ashford; Country Brides Faversham;

Other wedding suppliers: Vintage Vows, Herne Bay; Opera Bespoke; Robert Mitchell Hair; Fitzgeralds of Canterbury; Jane at Graham Greener; Pod Floral Design

Books & albums are so important

There was a time when digital first took off when the novelty of the new medium meant that we stopped printing things off and got used to seeing things on a computer screen and a digital photo frames.

However, we're now all rediscovering printed photos. Proper prints, not home printed. Good quality, lab prints that are publication quality. There's nothing quite like the detail, colour and richness of a properly constructed album and some things are just best viewed big! For albums and books, real prints on real photographic paper will always carry a premium and you'll see that when you look at some samples. The good news is that there are also digitally printed books to meet any budget and if you book a consultation I'd be happy to show you some examples.

Choosing a wedding photographer?

So you're tempted to phone a friend? I'm regularly on the panel of experts of wedding magazines and the question about how to choose your wedding photographer comes up a lot. Some people will use a friend or family member with a digital SLR, but just a few crucial questions to consider include:

  1. can they cope with a variety of shooting conditions
  2. do they own backup equipment - are they FULLY insured
  3. have they done it before (and have you seen the results)

Which venues do you know?

I photograph at lots of new and different places and will always visit prior to the wedding. Past venues include: Knowlton Court; St Edmunds School, Canterbury; Canterbury Cathedral; Canterbury Cathedral Lodge; Eastwell Manor, Ashford; Boys Hall ; The Beacon House; Reads, Faversham; Salmestone Grange, Broadstairs; Sole Street House, Faversham; Sevenoaks School; Mount Ephraim, Faversham; Penhurst Place; Kings School Milner Court, Canterbury; Whitstable Castle; Marine Hotel, Whitstable; Winters Barns, Canterbury; Shepherd Neame, Faversham; The Dog Inn, Canterbury; The Three Tuns, Canterbury; The Marquis, Alkham.
